It must be acknowledged, however, that BC Ferries president Bob Lingwood has proven to be a brave man, offering himself personally as a target for angry Horseshoe Bay resi- dents. Earlier this week the Ferries forces rallied to host a walkabout — with . Lingwood present — in Horseshoe Bay to illustrate to resi- dents the changes planned in the Crown corporation’s $26-million reconfiguration in the Bay. At issue: the transformation of the village of Horseshoe Bay into a pit stop parking lot. As a Crown | corporation, BC Ferries iy Wa VIEW POINT: ikabout Vancouver council to proceed with its plans. This means BC Ferries can do exactly as it pleases. Consultation is fundamentally a hollow gesture of appeasement. Given the dynamics at play, things are pretty polarized. On Monday the Horseshoe Bay Business and Community Association opted not to attend the walkabout. The good citizens of Horseshoe Bay are right to be shouting out against this development. For again, the gov- ernment is acting in an ad-hoc fashion. There are serious planning issues that must be addressed before Horseshoe Bay is touched, even in a more limited way. What’s missing is a long-term transit plan to address growth in the Howe Sound corridor, on Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast as well as longer range plans to address does not require the approval of West mailbox .
