North Shore designer Rachelle
Wendt, who has been creating casu-
al. wear for over 18 years and now
designs for her store called Gauche
Designs, says casual trends are a
mixed bag.

Layered looks are still in and
often combine short and long
pieces. Maxy length, foose falling
vests are very popular and tunic-
iength tops of any style are defi-
nitely in. They are worn with leg-
gings (we still refuse to give them
up) or loose, flowing pants.

Skirt lengths are worn either
short or long, nothing in between,
for. casua} times. Short, sassy
dresses and ankle-length dresses
are still stylish; long dresses are
often topped with long vests.
They're worn with heavy-soled
. shoes or narrow boot-shoes for

casual looks, Wendt says dresses are
_ topped with accessories to add casu-
-afness such as “heavy artiliecy”

are out. She says over-the-knee and
calf-length skirts are gone and so
are stirrup pants in casual fabrics.
Heavily textured and novelty knits
are not as popular as rich subtle
ones, especially overly cabled and
ribbed sweaters. Crayon colors go
by the wayside to make room for
more sophisticated colors.

Accessories often advises clients on
purchases that will span more than
one season, and has an eye out for
what's being worn,
