Wednesday, October 21, 1992 - North Shore News - § Students injured FIVE STUDENTS from Montroyal elementary school in North Vancouver were taken to Children’s Hospital on Tuesday after they were involved in a motor vehicle ac- cident on the Stanley Park causeway. A spokesman for Capilano Highway Services Co., which patrols the Lions Gate Bridge, said the accident _ took place at about 9:26 a.m.. The causeway was subsequently closed until about 9:40 a.m, A spokesman for Children’s Hospital said a parent in a mini-van had been criving five students from. the school and a relative of one of the children on a school outing when the accident occurred. She added that the children suffered non-life-threaten- ing injuries. . Fo press time Tuesday, the cause of the accident had not been determined. Pot seized TWO MEN are scheduled to appear in West Vancouver provincia] court on Nov. 23 to enter pless on drug- related charges laid against them by the West Vancouver Police. A police spokesman said three males and two fernales were observed in a car with Ontario licence plates at 11:43 a.m. on Oct. 13. The police subsequently searched the car and found 15 grams of marijuana in 2 pair of jeans located in the vehicte’s trunk. The narcotic had an estimated street value of $300. Charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking are Paul Van Halteren, 21, of Vancouver and Wayne Robert Miller, 24, of New Westminster. A fire department spokesman said the vehicle was fully ablaze when fire crews reached the scene. . He sdded thai the cnuse of the fire ‘looks suspicious.’’ Report pessimistic on ways to prevent further Lynn Canyon accidents THERE IS nothing more that can be done to stop people from diving from cliffs into the many natural but treach- erous pools of Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver District. : That was the finding of provin- cial coroner Mary Lou Merner, who on Monday released inquiry reports into three deaths in Lynn Canyon Park this summer. They include: © instructing the Lynn Canyon task force to meet annually in the spring to review progress and make additional recommenda- tions; @ highlighting the risk experi- enced by rescue teams in the can- yon; @ predetermining canyon access points for use during rescues and developing a map grid system for recording accident sites; @ extending the fence parallel to Lynn Creek and the First Falls area down to the creekbank and - installing signage to warn of the dangers; @ and commending the efforts of Carol Anne Bertenshaw-Fiiatt in ,educating the public in the dangers of the canyon.
