Archie Graham ART REVIEW HE BUZZWORD in the current art scene “deconstruction.” lf you dare to utter it in conver- sation with art gallery enthusiasts you are likely to make instant triends all nodding their heads in agreement like pundits sharing a secret. If you don’t happen to know what it means, don’t worry. Your new-found friends probably don’t know either. But the term, coined by French philosopher, Jacques Derrida, refers to a method of analysis that seeks to identify and disassemble the foundational concepts of any given system of thought and perception, According to this point of view, texts like Shakespeare’s Macbeth and images like Leonardo da Vin- ci’s Mona Lisa, have no objective meaning.
