But there might be one sagging area that you never thought about — your car. Getting your body in shape takes time, effort and commitment, but stopping sagging in your car or truck doesn’t require any pain for gain. The suspension system makes up the ‘‘muscle’’ system in cars and trucks. Just as with people, though, the suspension system loses its tone. One integral part of a vehicle’s suspension system, the coil spring, tends to sag with time and wear. And when this happens, the suspension system begins to suffer. Results from worn or sagging coil springs include reduced shack absorber height, causing the car to bottom out, reduced vehicle height, tire wear, and poor handling. Bob Parquet, an industry expert, explains: ‘If you notice your car or truck leaning or dipping when you are carrying a load or pulling a trailer, it's time to take a look at your suspension system and the coil springs.’’ The suspension system industry is offering a coil spring created especially to help correct vehicle sag and improve suspension system muscle tone. Unlike regular coil springs, these springs have coils spaced closely together at the top, while the coils toward the middle and bottom are more widely spaced. This gives the coil a special flexing action for add- ed strength when needed. When driving with a normal load, the tightly coil- ed springs ensure proper vehicle height. When towing or hauling extra heavy loads, the wider spaced coils on the bottom flex up to provide extra support. In addition to restoring ride height and control, coil springs improve overall vehicle handling and stability. They help extend tire life and provide up to 1,000 pounds of extra-load carrying capacity, depending on tire and frame conditions. Diets, exercise, and willpower are all necessary to prevent sagging in our bodies. Isn’t it nice to know that fixing the sagging in our vehicles won't require that much pain? Prepare for winter THE KEY to safe winter driving is foresight. With the colder months ap- proaching, advance preparation is essential for taking on winter's hazards, By taking a few precautions and carrying a few important items in your car, you and your family can avoid many winter dangers. © Always carry a can of de-icer for the windshield. Some products contain antifreeze to prevent ice from reforming, and a non-streak- ing formula to keep windows clear. A rugged scraper top to break up ice and an extra large spray button that can be depressed without removing gloves are also beneficial to the winter driver. @ It’s a good idea to fill up with a windshield washing antifreeze. Extended corrosion blocks radiator fins, causing overheating which in turn lowers mileage and increases bearing wear. Overheating even affects the oil, causing breakdown of dispersion properties which accelerates bear- ing failure. The sinsplest and surest way to avoid overheating is to have the coolant changed once a year or at every 26,000 km. The best time for a coolant change is in the spr- ing, just before cooling systems are coming into their most dif- ficult time. AUTOBODY LTD.
