West Van man wins friend of youth award WEST VANCOUVER resident doe Jetter has won the 1989 Friend of Youth Award from the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Greater Vancouver. The award was created to recognize individuals who show a commitment to young people. Jetter has played a key role in the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs over his 30-year involvement with the organization. He has acted as director and president of the society and has chaired several committees. Jetter has carned the nickname “the scrounger’’ because of his perseverance in collecting dona- tions for the operation of the clubs’ camp potlach and other capital projects. “He believes very strongly in Local students win awards THIS YEAR the Lions Gate Rotary Club of North Vancouver has provided awards to several North Shore students. ‘‘We are pleased to recognize students who have contributed significantly to their school and community,” says club president Al Brown, Mark Patske of Argyle Second- ary School and Jeff Moreton of Carson Graham were selected on the basis of demonstrated talent, motivation and good citizenship. The seven Lower Mainland clubs provide activities and services for children ranging from arts and crafts to guidance, counselling and games. Many of the children par- ticipating in the clubs come from disadvantaged homes and may need the support and en- couragement that volunteers such as Jetter provide.
