Options for volunteers

IF YOU want to volunteer but are
uncertain about the skills you have
to offer, call the North Shore In-
formation and Voluntcer Centre
for a personal intervies. The fol-
lowing is a list of some of the
many volunteer opportunities
available through the centre.

RECREATIONAL aide who en-
joys working with teens is needed
to assist in coaching a softball
team, attend weekly practices, set
up games with other youth groups,
plan programs and assist at special
functions. Training provided.
Volunteer will have use of pool,
gym, ete, Flexible hours. Short
term.

GOOD communication skills?
Train as a cancer information line
volunteer, Learn how to give emo-
tional support over the phone to
cancer patients and their families
and answer questions. A health
related background will be heipful.
Flexible 3% hour shifts, one per
week, Monday to Friday. Training
and orientation provided.

swimming lessons for a_ nine-
year-old autistic boy who is very
active and needs special handling
in the pool. Hours are every
Saturday from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Volunteer will have use of pool,
jacuzzi and sauna.

UNDERSTANDING, patient
people are wanted to visit with
seniors whose families are not in
town. Hours are flexible. Training
and orientation provided.

CALM, friendly person is need-
ed to assist a 64-year-old man with
an adaptive specialized fitness

group. A car would be helpful but
the HandiDart is available. Hours
are Monday and/or Wednesday
from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

NON-JUDGMENTAL people
are wanted to visit and shop with
frail elderly people. A car will be
helpful. Volunteer must be over 19
years, Hours are flexible. Training
and orientation provided.
