NV firm applies to store more PCBs

CANADIAN Occidental Petrotwum Ltd. has applied to the
B.C. environment ministry’s V‘aste Management Branch to
store additional PCB waste «i its North Vancouver plant

18,600 kilograms of PCB

cracking down cn storage sites.
“They're not moving in thou-
sands of litres of PCBs,’’ said
Killeen. *‘Strachan stated one year
ago that he would get tough on
PCB waste sites. When (federal
environment minister) Lucien
Bouchard complained that nothing
had been donc, Strachan started
hiring people to go out and physi-
cally check these sites. A lot of
companies are now scrambling to
get the proper permit for storage.”’
