10 - Sunday, October 16, 1988 - North Shore News inquiring reporter Stephen Barrington THE GREATER Vancouver Regional District is pres- ently exploring the possibility of a Lower Mainland-wide recycling program. Under such a program, items to be recycled would include not only newspapers and paper products, but also other commonly disposed of house- hold goods such as glass and metal. In Switzertand, for instance, 2 country-wide recycling program has proven successful, with conveniently located bins making it easy for homeowners to participate in the initiative. As such a program here would involve the cuoperation of residents, Inquiring Reporter asked if people would be willing to support such an endeavor by separating waste items. Would you support recycling program? Marie Roulleau North Vancouver I already separate my garbage, recycle newspa- per and compost kitchen waste, making a small amount thrown out, I'd like to see more people do Erin Arnott North Vancouver Definitely. You would have one bag for glass, one bag for paper, one bag for garbage and a compost in the garden. It’s a good idea. Sheri Patis North Vancouver Yes. We were doing this in California, and_ it’s that much more work. If they could pick it up as they do with the papers it would be good. Brett Atkins Burnaby It would probably be a hassle for most people, but those who cooperate would benefit society. I'd stop if I couldn’t see it doing any good. Jason Wilks North Vancouver I would. It would save people and stores money, and taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for garbage collection. If people don't want to they won't. this.
