In his own eyes, 47-year- old Donnelly Rhodes is a working actor who happens to have diverse acting oppor- tunities continually, and fi- nally, coming his way. Humor 1s the key charac- teristic of conversation with the Winnipeg-born actor and humor has taken Rhodes in- Chris Plummer and John Colicos and Kate Reid, that were able to work in the States. You see, | moved to the States when I was 14. My family and | moved down there for two years. Never dreamed I’d be back there some day,’’ says Rhodes. “And in 1964, I went back there (to the U.S.) So I had the permanent residency and all that stuff. And it’s very difficult for actors to get that. You can’t really have a career unless you can go away from home and come back. I’m a Canadian citizen and an American citizen.’’ His most popular role to daté,-his three-year stint on Soap, grew out of his desire to do comedy. It also helped carry him through the early years of acting when, after appearing in a 1956 Air Force production in the Dominion Drama _ Festival, he became involved with Theatre 77 in Winnipeg.
