Good things
from NDP

Dear Editor

We will be having a
Federal election in less than a
year and the Conservatives
and Liberals are fighting i
out. The polls show that the
NDP chance 1s lower than it
has been for years I think
this 1s a pity as the NDP has
been responsible for some of

the best amenities that we
have in Canada.

In the nineteen twenties the
Farmers Political Party (the
first name for the NDP) took
ws place in the House of
Commons. They held the
balance of power and told the
government (o pass a bill that
would start a Canadian Old

Thus started
Pension in

Age Pension.
the Old Age
Canada.

In 1948, the Saskatchewan
government passed the
Hospnitahzation Plan and a
few years later passed
Medicare. They were the first
in Canada to do this and pro-
bably the first in) North

America.

When Dave Barrett took
over the British Columbian
government, one of his first
acts was to freeze the farm
lands in 1972 and in 1973 his
government passed the
Agricultural Land Act. The
Land Act divided the land in-
tO seven Lypes.

The establishment of the
Old Age Pension and
Medicare were for people and
the passing of the Land Act
was tO preserve our farm
tands. They are all equally
important.
