IN WEEK-END Metro
Hockey League action,
the West Van Rockets
made a sweep of their
games, romping to an
8-2 win over the
Coquitlam Chiefs on
Sunday and flattening
their fellow West
Vancouverites, the
Continentals, 14-4 on
Saturday.

On Sunday, after the
Chiefs and the Rockets
played to a scoreless first
period, Norm Sawers got
things rolling for the Rockets
three minutes into the
second period when he
poked the puck loose at his
own blucline and then
outdistanced the last man
back to score West Van's
first goal.

Just under a minute later,
the Rockets added two more
in the span of 16 seconds —
Scott Drummond converting
a Dan Corrigan pass for the
first one, and then Drum-
mond setting up Steve Stuart
for the other.

Before the period ended,
Byron Weese and Bob Watt
each added another while
Coquitlam countered with a
goal in the closing minutes of
the period to make it 5-1 at
the end of two.

The Chiefs came on strong
from the outset of the third
and madc it 5-2 with the
period only three minutes
old. Although maintaining
good pressure throughout,
somo good goaltending by
Randy Smith kept the Chiefs
from adding any more goals

while Brian Chatfield, Bruce

Bradshaw and Drummond

capitalized on their op-
portunities for the 8-2 final.
Over the three periods the
Rockets outshot the Chiefs
37-21.

ALL WEST VAN

In Saturday’s all West Van
contest, the Rockets led 4-2
after one, 11-3 at the end of
two, and then outscored the
Continentals 3-1 in the third
period for the 14-4 outcome.

Corrigan led the scoring
parade for the Rockets with
four goals while Stuart,
Weese, and Chatfield added
hat tricks and Brent Parker a
single. Goal-getters for the
Continentals were Dave
Cook with a pair, and singles
from Scott Mentiply and
Gavin Crickmore.

The Rockets outshot the
Continentals 53-27 with
Grant Hebert in goal for the
Rockets and John Musser for
the Continentals.
