City off-track | on NV taxes Dear Editor: As an average taxpayer in North Vancouver City, 1 am concerned about the increase in our taxes. Did you know that a running track has been pro- posed for the city? This track is _to cost the over-burdened tax:: payers $2 million and the city intends to borrow the moncy. This is on top of the already expected increases. The water ~ and sewer rates are going up. The police administration building will cost millions of dollars that the city borrowed and hasn’t finished paying for. ‘The North Vancouver mayor and council are also thinking of expaniding city hall! : :. Do we really need to bor- row, an-additicnal. $2. million for a running track in the city? When all the other municipal - ties are downsizing, why are. -we. thinking about ‘spending -‘ “money we don’t have? If this. “goes to referendum, T'll be vot- ing no. Dear Editor: Mr. Noel Wright states in the Sept. 22 News thar I, ina letter replying to his Aug. 28 article, made “the interesting suggestion that the Holocaust could have been averted if only Germany had had a version of the B.C, Human Rights Council.” I made no such sug- gestion. I asked Noel Wright to explain how, according to him, our Human Rights Act (which | concerns publications likely to.’ expose a person or a group or a class of persons to hatred or’, contempt because of their race “or religion, etc.) would have — facilitated the holocaust, since that is what, in his Aug. 18 article, Mr. Wright scemed to be suggesting it would have done. That Mr. Wright should confuse this request for clarifi- ~ cation with my suggesting that our Human Rights Act would ~ have prevented the holocaust is barely credible. . Lionel Kenner.
