They meet the criteria of the manual of allowances and services which was revised in April, 1993, White said he is able to afford the paid columns with savings gained by not paying his wife who works full-time in the constituency office. I is legal for an MP to pay a relative as an employee. said White. “Her work is donated and ' doesn’t cost taxpayers ¢ dime. But the work she does means I can save ‘on a salary in the office.” said White.
