By CAROLE STAFFORD A heliport or a fisherman's wharf? The future of North Vancouver’s Pemberton streetend remains uncertain. North Vancouver District council asked for more information on both project proposals tabled at its meeting last week. Okanagan Helicopters Ltd. is asking to use the site as a heliport to service emergency flights, recon- naissance, tourism, business and inter-city travel. At the same time, J.K.W. Engineering Ltd. on behalf of Westlynn Marine Services Ltd. wants to develop the area as a fishermen’s wharf aquatic village. Uses would include a waterfront park, boat launching, a seafood restaurant, charter services. ~ . fish | markets “and warehousing. The concept of a com- prehensive development for the site has been considered since the early 1970s. An earlier proposal for an aquatic village lapsed at the end of £979. Several proposals for a heliport on the North Shore have also been made. A request from the Coast Mountain Air Rescue Society for a land lease in the upper Lynn Valley area for the purpose is also before council. One concern about using the Pemberton street-end for a heliport is that it is too far away from Lions Gate Hospital.
