The management of Western Pulp shares your concern about the environment. WE ARE COMMITTED Our Woodfibre mill near Squamish is spending $70 million on pollu- tion abatement equipment and environmental upgrades. WE ARE MOVING QUICKLY Chlorinated dioxins were first discovered in pulp mill wastewater in late 1987. Western Pulp moved quickly to locate the source of dioxins and curb their formation. We stopped using woodchips contuninated with chlorophenal preservatives, reformulated a chemical used in pulp washing, improved brownstock (pulp) washing, and increased the use of chlorine dioxide in place of chlorine. IMPRESSIVE EARLY RESULTS Recent tests show dioxins have been virtually eliminated from mill wastewater, We have also reduced the discharge of chlorinated organic compounds by 40%. WE HAVEN'T FINISHED YET Upprading of mill equipment over the next Wwo years will further reduce the environmental effect of our operations, A secondary treatmeat facility which wil be in operation by 1992 will render mill wastewater NON-LOXIC, tae any WESTERN PULP LIMITED PARTNERSHIP oo AA list the names and addresses of 7. re and Simpieags4: | Pressed carbon block waiter filtration system for your home Easy to install Removes over 100 E.PA. priority pollutants and contaminants Satisfaction guaranteed Buyan Enterprises Lid. 985-4822 ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA i FIRST WATERCOUNT SYSTEMS L1D 595 WEST 24th AVENUCL VANCOUVER, BC.
