Toss up for girls’ basketball supremacy

Early surprises on North Shore

One week into the regular league season of
Senior Girls Basketball play on the North Shore,
and already there is heavy speculation over who

will be number one — Hillside? West Van?
Carson Graham? or maybe, just maybe,
Sutherland?

So far, the experts say it is
even money on Carson
Graham, Hullside and West
Vancouver, but after two
straight victones, including a
44-39 upset over Carson
Graham, Sutherland Sabres
have suddenly become a
dark horse.

“] wasn't expecting us to
do very well against them,”
said a surprised Sabre coach.

Carol Shollert,

“We didn't play senior ball
last year so I didn't know
what to expect.”

However, the Sabres did
play Intermediate Basketball
together last year, and won
the Howe Sound and Van-
couver and District titles.

player on the team at 5°10",
scored 10 points in the Car-

son Graham game, matching
teammate Lynn Brenner's
output.

“We're not really a tall
team, but we're quick and
we work together well as a
team,” Shollert said.

Sutherland also dumped
Argyle Pipers 57-32 in last
week's girls’ hoop action.
Cathy Wade and Vicky Ban-
bury both played well in that
game.

“We're certainly not a one
player team, and we're not
afraid to shoot,” explained
Shollert.
