Faced with criticism that this matter was being ram- trodded through. the park doard has deterred a decision unul there has been more public input. There will be a further public meeting held within the next two weeks to obtain this additional public input. As of writing, the date of this further mecting had not been set. Was that you, Mr. Lautens, I saw leaving an aromatherapy store? Somehow I doubt it. it would be interesting to see your collection of receipts from businesses that you so readily support. I especially respected your viewpoint in giving due credit for independent thinking to our much welcome “latte- drinking” tourists to West Vancouver. Where you cite how casily “exploitable” they might be if the answer is to reduce the speed through the park. They maintain that widen- ing the causeway will encour- age more speed and cause even more accidents. Thev are not prepared to admit. that lives will be saved if the kines sre widened. They say that the park board is breaching a sacred teust of Lord Stanley if they agree to the widening of the causeway. ‘This is powerful stuff! The board needs your help! The opponents have to have residents from the North Shore speaking about the dan- gers of driving this narrow causeway when they are con- fronted with tour buses com- ing at thent in opposite dirce- tions or when it fs raining and pitch black, and the glare of headlights of on-coming vehi- cles blinds their vision. This upcoming — public meeting will be pivotal. | think the board wants to approve this agreement. But it has to have concerned citi- zens speaking out. It is the residents of the North Shore who have the most vested interest in widen- ing the causeway. The board wants to hear from you. 'm very sure, as a former resident. of Burnaby, where Hastings Street East began to upgrade and update some 25 years ago, the nay-sayers could not envision how “The Heights” would be the thriv- ing place it is today. Mr. Lautens, in a word, this is called “vision.” Mayor Wood and Councillor Clark have it. I for one thiak so, obviously many others do, too.
