Approximately six cubic metres of contaminated soil were dumped in the Indian River Drive area in May. The soil was contaminated with arsenic, lead, zinc and gasoline. The site has since been cleaned and the scil was packaged for removal. But, before the soil could be safely trans- ported, it was removed from the site. The dirt is unsuitable for any use around the home, such as gardening or landscaping. "If anyone hes removed it for this purpose, we sak. that they contact the District so chat we can arrange for proper dis- posal," - said Distzice Environmental Protection Officer Richard Bosse. As gardening enthusiast Marjorie Ashdown puts it, "! choughe che sign looked a bit lonely so 1 plant- ed some flowers around it. The gardens just grew irom there." And it has grown. Marjorie hes now created and tends to three _ gardens in Pemberton Heights. The crowning glory is the large © garden park at the entrance to Zig Zag Trail, zt the’ comer ‘of. Keith and Pemberton.
