demolition reprieve

THE opportunity to
save a North Lonsdale
heritage home from
demolition just got a lit-
tle better.

Realtor Allan Sutton was
granted a development vari-
ance permit on Monday night
by North Vancouver District
Council fora new house ar 361
East St. James Rd.

The permit was required
because the plans for the wo-
storey, crafisman-style house
call fora building that is 12 feet

210 East St. James failed when
council gave in to neighbor-
hood pressure and refused to
send the proposal to a public
hearing.

Neighbors claimed the sub-
division required at 210 E. St.
James would set a precedent in
a neighborhood of predomi-
nantly large lots,

Coun. Janice Harris said
Monday there is still a ray of
hope for the Robertson House
because Sutton has agreed that

instead of demolishing the old
house he will move it to the
front of his lor and place it on
blocks while building the new
home.

But Ken Carniato, owner of

210 E. St. James, has told the
News he will not get involved
in renewed plans to save the
Robertson House unless he has
full council support in advance.
