Dear Editor: Congratulations to Deiany's; it is wonderful that they have been able to estab- lish themselves not only on Denman, but in our own beloved Village as well. As for the slanted com- ments towards Starbucks, I believe that the esteemed writer of the article (April 9 Table Hopping) doesn’t see the big picture. It is because of our demand for quality that Seattle’s “caffeine giant” is just that; many have tried to imitate Starbucks, but few have measured up to the stan- dards. We made them into Don’t knock Edgemont Starbucks Dear Editor: This is in response to Timothy Renshaw’s April 9 Table Hopping article about Delany's opening in Edgemont Village. Can we stop this “protec- tionist” attitude? Yes, Delany's may be about local folks “returning in triumph,” but do we have to pur down one group fo support anoth- er? Consider that Starbucks Edgemont Village employs students, gives them some- thing that is invaluable, an opportunity for work when it is common knowledge that young people these days find it so hacd to get work. Just go into Starbucks Edgemont, ask the staff there where they are from. The answer will be that they are from the community. So, why this attitude of “We are Canadians and They are Americans!” By alls means, give Delany’s goad press, but you donot have to smear Starbucks to do so. Know that there are young people involved, young people loyal to the organization they work for. T know because one of those young peopic happens to be my daughter. And, yes, this is our community! New stores open regularly in the Lower Mainland and the demand for good people is high.
