changes will permit the sale of
fruit and berries from district
streets on a one-year trial basis.

Suzanne Stromotich, a West
Vancouver resident, asked council
in April for permission to sell ber-
ries from a van in a parking lot
near Capilano Road and the Up-
per Levels Highway.

retail chains as ‘‘absurd."*

Coun. Paul Turner reminded
council that the sites were chosen
by staff in order not to affect
traffic or “residential neighbor-
hoods,

Turner.

But councillors Rick Buchols
and Ernie Crist opposed the
move. They argued that council
would be allowing a type of
business to compete on unfair
terms with established retail
outlets that must pay rent and
taxes.

But with only Coun. Jim
Cuthbert voting with Crist and
Buchols, the amendments passed
by a 4-3 margin.
