presented to council

Varying viewpoints clash on
fate of WV waterfront site

ponders the latest proposal
to alter a three-lot package
on the West Vancouver
waterfront site and create a
better public beach. and
beach access.

After a year and a half of
negotiation between land owner
Marilyn Diligenti, che municipality
and now, the new: Garrow Bay
Ratepayers group, a proposal

’ sesulting from the negotiations be-
‘tween the three parties was pres-
ented. at Monday night’s council
meeting. But it was met with fur-
ther criticism from disgruntled
area residents,

given exough time to write a
report that would provide council

with some ‘definitive recommen- ,

dations."’

Urging counci!
earlier resolution .of, the .long-
simmering problem, Mayor: Mark
Sager...warned fellow council
members ‘that the community
wants the problems at Garrow
Bay resolved, preferably by the
community and not by the courts.

idential use and reconfiguration of
her other two lots so that all three
would enjoy waterfront status.

West Vancouver parks director
Kevin Pike said the public would
also gain a better access route
than the current steep path, the
potential for an improved putlic
beach and the right to run
maintenance vehicles down Dili-
genti’s driveway to the waterfront.

Brandishing a 127-signature
petition from the area, Nelson
Avenue resident Lucy Croockewit
described what Diligenti stands to
gain from the proposal as a ‘‘mil-
lion-dollar giveaway.""

She said the public would lose
many feet of linear waterfront in
return for ‘‘the shady end of the
beach’? and get a narrow access
that would look like a “‘cunnel.”’

against the new residential lot, but
objects to. loss of foreshore, park
or beach proposals that could add
to parking problems on Imperial
