44 - Wednesday, April 25, 1990 - North Shore News Volunteers honored THE WEST Vancouver Seniors’ Activity Centre salutes its volun- teers with a special “Sparkling Oc- casion’’ on Thursday, April 26. In 1989, 548 volunteers con- tributed 35,588 hours to the activi- ties and programs of the centre. Volunteers work in a myriad of ways to help the centre run: teaching programs from silk paint- ing to woodwork, helping with reception and food services, water- ing plants and supervising billiards, and staging special com- munity events like the upcoming Swingtime Dance and seniors par- ticipation in Community Day. Special recognition will be made to the 72 members who have worked five, 10 and 11 or more years. Awards will be presented by Mayor Don Lanskail, Parks Commission chairman John Hut- ton and Parks and Recreation staff. Level 1 introduces the Cowboy Hustle, Slap Leather, Rockabilly and the Two Step. The advanced Level 2 course involves more in- tricate footwork like the Tahoe Stomp and the Texas Backslide. Both classes are chock full of good ole fashioned fun and are perfect for preparing for the rodeos, barn dances and hoedowns that are synonymous with summertime in the west.
