Hand finished second, WV sixth. cond provincially before beating number one ranked West Yan- couver Highlanders in the North Shore final to earn a spot in the B.C.’s. West Van eventually made the B.C. tournament by winning a six-team wildcard tournament. Ranked first at Kamloops, the Royals took their eight-team sec- tion, winning seven straight mat- ches, and losing only one game in the process, while West Van- couver, coached by Wayne Des- jardins, finished on top of’ their section despite losing a match to Tupper. West Van fell to Kelowna in their quarter-final and eventually placed sixth, but Handsworth breezed through both their quarter-final versus White Rock’s Semiahmoo 15-9, 15-8 and semi- finel against Victoria’s Mount Deuglas 15-11, 15-8. The Royals lost 15-12 to Tupper in the opening game of the final (after leading 12-8), but came back with 15-3 and 15-2 triumphs before Tupper tied it with a 15-1 victory. Tupper won their first-ever B.C. volleyball championship by defeating the defending-champion Royals 15-8 in the deciding game. Michelle Lachmana, Hand- sworth’s 5’7”’ setter who graduates in June, repeated as a B.C. tour- nament first all-star.
