THE OTHER day I was served up to the Young Socreds

all that. Not wanting wet egg pushed into the old phiz, I
said | wasn’t thinking of having one in the foreseeable
future so would talk about nuts and bolts (Mostly nuts.)
But now it’s time to come clean,

bell’s courage stayed with me

When the Criminal Code was
changed in 1969 to permit legal

abortion, the rider was that the
mother’s health had to be on the
line. (Which is what Vander
Zalm is saying now.)

But ‘health’? was made to in-
clude pimples or a case of the
burps. The result has been that
over 65,000 abortions a year
were being donc. Mostly at
public cost.

Accarding to the Alberta
Medical Association, fewer than
five per cent of abortions are
performed for genuine health
reasons, The AMA also says that
14 per cent are repeaters, thus
indicating that abortion as a
ineans of birth control is no
myth,

Mind you, it has occurred to
me that if Medicare is required
to pay for cases arising from
tape and incest, some women
will falsely claim to have been
raped or taken into a corner by
their daddies. But that's a risk
that must be taken.

Meanwhile, the excesses of the
sobbers are to be marvelled at.
John Dixon, the head of the
B.C. Liberties Association,
comes up with the gem that
state-paid abortion is a civil
liberty.

Dixon is described in the
prints as a “‘philosopher."’ Well,
I'm a philosopher too. And I say
it ain't,

There's also the consideration
that it was once thought to bc
disgraceful for a single girl to
have a baby. Now it's not.

In conclusion, | wish to say
that the judges of the Supreme
Court of Canada who voted for
Dr. Morgenthaler are a bunch of
fools. For quite apart from
whether abortion should be per-
mitted, or whether or not it is
paid for by the public purse, it is
no more connected to ‘‘the life,
liberty and security of the per-
son’? than farce is connected to
fire. ,
