ITALIAN MASTERPIECES Vatican exhibit’s splendor unfolds VATICAN SPLENDOUR: Masterpieces of Baroque Art, con- tinues through until Sept. 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Seventy works of art have been assembled from collections in the Vatican. Among the artists represented are Bernini, Carracci, Domenichino, Guercino, Petro da Cortona, Poussin, Sacchi, Valentin and Reubens. The most dramatic evidence of this is shown in the results of the Canadian National Music Festival Finals at which North Vancouver schools competed with the finest bands and choirs in Canada. Further evidence of North Van- couver student quality was displayed in the most recent selec- tion of B.C. Music Education Association scholarship winners. These awards of $300 are given to graduating students planning to pursue a career in public school education who have demonstrated an outstanding level of achieve- ment and. participation in their school music program. Kristine Miles and Linda Rolfson, both of Argyle Secondary School were awarded the scholar- ships. In the seven years of this schol- arship, North Vancouver students have won eight out of the 24 scholarships awarded province- wide. the Vatican Museum andthe Vatican Library, was facilitated by Pope John Pau! 1! in gratitude to the Canadian people who received him so warmly during his cross- country tour in 1984, Few of these masterpieces, which commemorate twelve Papal reigns during the 17th Century, have been seen outside Italy. THE KOREAN Canadian Educa- tion and Culture Society is holding a Korean Folk Performing Arts Concert on Wed., July 23, 8 p.m. at North Vancouver’s Centennial Theatre.
