A7 - Wednesday, November 18, 1981 - North Shore News Dear Editor: I was shocked to read the republication in yesterday's advertisment of the irresponsible and _ false statements about me _ that were published by the Pacific Tribune. As a result of my demand to Sean Griffin, editor of the Pacific Tribune, an apology and retraction was published which correctly stated that I have never been counsel for Hooker Chemicals and that I Dear Editor: In response to the letter from Malcolm C. Watson, Sunday, November 15, I would like to know if our Sea Cadets were rude or demanding or just what was his problem? His remark about a “uniform bearing a Canadian emblem” doesn’t seem to me to be the real reason somehow. As a “former Air Cadet officer” he might be in- terested in knowing that had he been shopping in North Vancouver one month earlier he would have been “accosted” by an Air Cadet “Panhandling” (his words not mine). No sponsors of cadet corps like to send their cadets out to raise money. But at this time it is im- possible to raise sufficient funds any other way and believe me, we have tried. We have always been very grateful to the public and local business men for their support in our endeavours to maintain the high standards most in my mind 1) With the = active 2) We must strengthen existing policies and guidetines in ecologically sensitive areas to protect our rivers, streams. water supply arcas and natural envaonment and to participation of am not defending Hooker in any property tax appeal. The fact is that I do not accept any actions or assessment appeals = as counsel concerning the District of North Vancouver while serving as an Alder- man, because I would consider that a conflict of interest. The other statement in the Pacific Tribune that I am the “architect” of the District's “high land price” policy is ue to Sea we expect in our cadets. The Navy League is unique on the North Shore as we sponsor two cadet corps: the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps “Lonsdalé” and the Navy League Corps “The Honourable Clarence Wallace”. We also have our own building which we solely maintain. I am sure most citizens can understand that, with heat, light, telephone and _= general repairs, the cost of which escalates every month, we have not been able to find a more suitable way of raising money, even more so now than before since the powers-that-be saw fit to remove one source of our funding, namely the non- profit lottery booth in Capilano Mall. So, Mr. Watson, unless you are prepared to come up with a better way to raise money than any of us have been able to in the last twenty or so years, I think an apology is in order for the very few who try so hard to Since my election to the Council of the District of North Vancouver 2 years ago the protection of our environment and quality of life on the North Shore has been upper prevent re-curring flood damage ON NOVEMBER 21st VOTE CRIST, Ernie ALDERMAN the public. ou Councé needs to re think our whole approach to waste disposal and the recyciing of waste products ellous’ to Lakes also false atid irresponsible. The Districts policy was established long before I was elected to Council. Because of the gravity of these statements, I demand that you publish this letter in a prominent section of the Wednesday edition of the News and also acknowledge the error of these statements. I am confident that those residents of North Van- Cadets keep the North Shore Cadets Corps functioning to the best of our ability, with no thought of thanks or pay. Mrs. Doris Whitfield Acting President Navy League of Canada North and West Van Branch Board chose NicDowell Dear Editor: Your article titled “WVEA names slate” on Sunday. Nov. 8, was inaccurate in one regard. While Darrell Frith and Margot Furk won the en- dorsement of the WVEA membership, the board did, in fact. recommend Fran McDowell for Schoo!
