Village, plans « triumphant
return to his home town
sooner than he expected with
the imminent opening of son

Mexicano) in the recently
vacated Fiesta Mexicana
locale on Lonsdale.

Mitchell, readers will
recall, lost Cafe Norte in July
1997 after his Cafe Centro
misadventure in Vancouver
swamped his entire fiscal ship.

offered the Fiesta fovation,
Mitchell was reiuetant to take
on the huge (150-seat) mid:
Lonsdale space,

However, a rearringement
of the old: Fiesta that reduces
its caning to 115 coupled

nate a North Vancouver Peso

hard to resist

And it isa homecoming in
more wavs than one for
Mitchell.

He was one of the original
partners in the old Cisco's
Mexican restaurant chain,
One of the chain’s original
links was Fiesta’s predec
in the 1200 Lonsdale lova-
tion.

Mitchell helped design
and build rhe focation’s
kitchen, which he is soon to
reclaim ownership of.

Norte Restaurante
Mexicano is scheduled to
open in early December.

Joining Mitchell in the
new Norte will be restaura-
teur Kathleen Barlow and
chef Michael Traquair, for-
merly of Cate Norte and Cate
Centro.

Expect many of Cafe
Norte’s clements of excel-
lence at the new Norte. Add
in a larger dining room and a
sharper focus on fresh
seafood.

Sunday brunch will also
be offered, amigos.
