The Blues’ doubles team went undefeated through provincial play en route to the B.C. ritle, and their third-place result: ar the nationals helped pace the British Columbia team to the overall zeam title. CYCLING... Three-time world mountain — bike champion Alison Sydor placed a solid sixth in the Redlands Classic road race last weekend. And considering the Nerth Vancouver rider used the six-day stage race as just a pre-season train- ing exercise tor the upcom- ing World Cup Mountain Bike season. it looks like Sydor is putting last season -~ 4 disappointing one by her standards — behind her. Fellow North Van mauntain bike rider Lesley Tomlinson also competed in the Redlands classic, fin- ishing 18th. Both = Sydor and Tomlinson will take part in a Cactus Cup event in Phoenix this weekend. FENCING... Jason Whiteman won the foil competition at a youth tournament at Seyiynan Hall last Saturday.* Erin Fitzsimmons placed second, Neal Miskin third and Gavin Steininger fourth. Neil Young won the epee event, — followed by Michael Inman, Mahdi Shannas and Blair Watson. The tournament was hosted by the North Vancouver Fencing Club.
