Human Rights Coalition. In a letter addressed to the city clerk, Collins said he wants to “make a response to Ms. O’Donneil’s presentation, and in view of local interest in the issue I should like to appear before council.” Susan O’Donnell, execu- tive director of the B.C. Human Rights Coalition, addressed council on Sept. 22. She asked council to reconsid- er its July 28 motion to con- demn changes tu the Human Rights Act. Council had debated the issue three times before coming to a 5-2 deci- sion. Councillors — John Braithwaite and Datrell Mussatto opposed __ the motion. “Council has stuck to its original decision in the free speech issue, for which it is to be congratulated,” Collins said in his letter. “However I feel I have some important information to give you, with special reference to what she (O’Donnell) had to say. “I feel that since council has opened the door to O'Donnell, it would be unfair to close the door to me.” Council agreed with that statement and voted unani- mously to grant Collins an audience, possibly at the Nov. 3 meeting of council. She said that skinheads were part of the fol- lowing. “Pm not a fan of Mr. Collins,” Coun. — Barbara Perrault said. “But I support his right to appear before us. Whether we agree or disagree with him, he has a right to be heard.” Collins and the North Shore News have been accused by the Canadian Jewish Congress of spreading anti-Semitic literature through his column.
