to know that thousands of people
are injured every year as a result
of lawnmower accidents, so
remember the following safety tips
for careful mowing.

Leave mower servicing to the professionals

Always turn the mower off and
let it cool before refueling. Sparks
from a running motor can touch
off an explosion as you refuel. A
hot engine is also a danger.

If any fuel spills, wipe it up
immediately, then let the saturated
cloth air out thoroughly in an area
away from any source of heat or
sparks. Gasoline and similar pro-
ducts create their own heat and
that cloth could start a serious fire
if not allowed to breathe.

more than 80% capacity.

If your mower is electric, check
the cord carefully for frayed or
damaged spots, and if you
discover any, have the cord

replaced at a _ reliable service
counter.

Using an electric mower with a
frayed cord is an invitation to a
lethal electrical shock or severe
electrical burn. Do not cut wet
grass with an electric mower.

Leave mower servicing — blade
sharpening, electrical repairs, etc.

If you do your own tune-up
and cieaning, be sure to remove or
disconnect the spark plug before
you begin. If you should turn the
blade by hand when the spark
plug is in place, the mower can
unexpectedly “‘jump start,’? caus-
ing serious injury.

Always turn the mower off be-
fore leaving it unattended. It may
take only a few seconds to run in-
side, but in those few seconds
someone could be seriously in-
jured. Lawnmowers, like many
modern conveniences, demand
respect and caution. Don’t be
careless.

rid of, do not pour it into the

ment for advice on proper
disposal methods.
