Little league volunteer Ethel Botto passes on LONG TIME North Vancouver resident Ethel Botto passed away _ Feb. 17, She was 58. Botts will be remembered by many for her years of devotion to little league baseball on the North Shore. In the early .’70s, Botto was head scorekeeper for Jaycee Little League, now known as North Van Central. She later became head scorekeeper and secretary for District Five Little League cover- ing all of the North Shore. Over the years Botto conducted many scorekeeping clinics in addi- tion to acting as head scorekeeper at numerous district tournaments and provincial finals. She was also a country and western music fan and she was a charter member of the ‘Deep Cove Bumz” country music club. Botto is survived by her hus- band Lew, son Keith, daughter Janis, son Grant and grandson James. Lawn bowlers invite new members WEST VANCOUVER Lawn Bowling club is inviting new members to join the game that skunked the invincible Spanish Armada. The season opens at the lawn bowling club in Memorial Park on Saturday, April 25. Two members, Ron Maunder and Harry Tailford, will hold teaching sessions for new members beginning with an introduction party on April 9, and demonstra- tions on April 13. New members are always wel- come. “It’s fun, exercise, and a social activity all rolled into one,” said Maunder. Bowls were first played in an- cient Egypt, but the game became well known in the Middle Ages. Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls before he took command of the English fleet which trounced the Spanish Armada.
