INLETS BRIEFS Hitchhiker sought in murder case SQUAMISH RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in iden- tifying a lone male who may have been hitchhiking on Highway 99 near the Sunset Marina at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday March 18. Potice believe the male may be able to assist in their investigation of the murder of “athleen Kermode. The 73-year-old retired West Vancouver teacher was found stabbed to death March 18 in her Sunset Marina area home. The person being sought is described only as being in his early 20s and carrying a medium-sized suitcase. it is belicved that the person was travelling south towards Van- couver and may have been picked up while hitchhiking. Squatter acquitted of murder charge A 36-YEAR-OLD Black Mountain squatter charged with the shooting death of another squatter was acquitted Thursday by a B.C. Supreme Court jury. Robert James Anderson was found not guilty of the second- degree murder of Calvin Burgess Robinson, 31. The charge was laid against Anderson after the discovery June 19, 1989 of Robinson's body on Black Mountain, a wilderness wa- tershed area above Horseshoe Bay. Robinson had died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The shooting had apparently occurred after a dispute broke out between the two men over an exposed roll of film. But Anderson’s defence lawyer, Glenn Orris, said the shooting was a matter of self-defence. The jury deliberated for more than two hours before returning a not puilty verdict. NV men charged with B&Es TWO NORTH Vancouver men have been charged with three counts of break and enter and two counts of possession of stolen property over $1,000 following a North Vancouver RCMP discovery of a cache of stolen goods. On Feb. 7, members of the North Vancouver RCMP burglary section executed a search werrant at 104-136 East 18th St. in North Vancouver City. A large quantity of stolen property was recovered, including native art (prints carvings and masks), household goods and elec- tronic equipment. Some of the unique native art pieces recovered remain unclaimed at the North Vancouver RCMP station. Anyone who has been a victim of a crime in which native art was stolen is asked to contact Const. Craig Duffin at 985-1311, local 445. NV man jailed for assault A 26-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced March 27 in North Vencouver provincial court to three months in jail for assault. Kevin Jay Hooper pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in con- nection with a Jan. 13 incident in North Vancouver District. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, Hooper was also placed on probation for 22 years. GVRD seeks N.
