RIEFS ‘Snow knocks out | power A HEAVY snowfall over the weekend caused several power outages on the North Shore, forcing some people to go without power for up to 18 hours. “The North Shore was one of the most seriously hit areas, par- ticularly the British Properties,’ said B.C. Hydro senior com- munications coordinator Verne Prior. He said there were three major power outages in the British Properties, with the main cause being fallen trees on power lines. Other areas that were forced to go without power included the Upper Lonsdale and Lynn Valley areas of North Vancouver District. While he could not say how many people were affected by the power outages on the North Shore, Prior ssid about 50,600 people went without power in the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley. “That snow was really heavy,’’ he said. ‘‘You could say this was one of the worst snow storms we've had.*’ Meanwhile, the Woodlands area of North Vancouver District was without power Monday aighi and early Tuesday morning after fallen trees knocked out power fines in the area. But Prior said less than 100 people were affected by the outage. . Schreck named oe union chief BRITISH COLUMBIA Nurses’ union’s acting chief executive Union President Pat Savage has officer.
