This year's income tax form looks pretty much like last year's, except that the dollar figures for personal, married, age and dependents exemptions have risen slight- ly. This might look like a tax savings to those who are stuck in a. job that pays the same salary year after year, but remember that the fig- ures at the back of the guide ~ how much tax each income bracket must pay - have also risen. For the 1985 tax year, the basic personal exemption has gone up by $180 to become $4,140. The age exemption has gone up by $110 to become $2,590. The married exemption has gone up by $160 to become $3,630. And the .exemption for depen- dents has gone up by $60 to become $1,420 for children born in 1967 or earlier. But the exemption for children born in 1968 or later remains at $710, the same as it was Jast year. A spouse can carn $510 in 1984 - $20 more than they could earn last year - before the married exemption is af- fected. Dependents, no mat- ter what age category they fall into, can earn $2,720 be- fore their exemption is af- fecied. (Last year, a child could only earn $2,540 or $2,600, according to his or her age.) * The North Shore Com- munity Credit Union will de holding a 1985 Tax Planning “seminar Wed., Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Delbrook Com- munity Centre, 600 West Queens Road, in North Vancouver.
