ae Mailbox Flashy wrapping h Dear Editor: Those Canadians who voted for ‘‘real change"’ in the last federal election have been misled by a federal budget package with flashy wrapping but little content. Here is the distressing truth: Over the next two years personal and corporate in- come tax revenue will rise by 26 per cent. There will be hidden in- creases in personal income taxes, every year, by delib- erately pushing taxpayers in- to higher tax brackets through inflation, The projected increase in government program spen- ding this year will be cut by School board system bt ; Track service & alterations nN n eed of a G lh a a ge ee OUmIC Phone for FREE estimates a Geet es An Dear Editor: beliefs and aspirations. The State may have ap- propriated the delivery system, but it is still the re- sponsibility of each of us to ensure that our children are educated in a manner which conforms with our own less than a half billion dollars. The budget projects that federal debt will increase by 50 per cent, or $100 billion dollars, over the next three years. tt projects that the debt will rise as a proportion of GNP for the rest of the decade to about 63 per cent. The interest charges alone on this debt are projected to grow by 29 per cent over the next two years to about $29 billion - that’s more than all personal income tax paid by Canadians last year. When the smoke clears next year, we will likely find that the deficit has actually grown, yet again. Budget projections put the deficit at over $30 billion per year for is much too important a matter to leave to so-called experts who are unable to even tell us how the learning process takes place. We need to reduce the size of School Districts by break- ing them up so that parents may take a more active role in the function of the Schoo! Boards. The success of the private schools on the North Shore has shown how beneficial the voluntary participation Dog lavatory stinks Dear Editor: The propesal that West Vancouver set aside an area as a dog lavatory (‘‘Dog run suggested,’”? May 17 and **Area Wanted for Dogs,” June 2) is a poor one. In the first place, most dog owners simply let their dogs run loose, and are not about to bundle them into the car and drive a few miles to the nearest dog lavatory. Second, even if the dog owner did go to this trouble, his dog might not oblige by defecating on command. Third, flies would expose Jamey MacDonald President people living near the dog javatory to a_ heightened probability of Toxocara canis infection. Nearby resi- dents are going to welcome a dog lavatory about as warm- ly as they would welcome a toxic dump. * No intelligent public discussion of the dog pro- blem can take place so long as the public is kept in ig- norance of the dangers of zoonotic diseases. Let's give people the facts first and discuss solutions afterwards. L.S.
