Paterson of Court House West to take the Senior Men's title at the Western Divisional Figure Skating -Championships_ in Powell River over the weekend. This” event comprised five skaters, all from the North Shore. Brad MacLean of NSWC _Skated consistent, attractive. performances to earn the bronze medal. _ Junior Men's Champion Jack Holmes skated to fourth place in the Senior event, but will skate only in the Jumor event. at the Canadian Championships in Montreal next month, thus opening a spot for Hollyburn's Gary Paterson, who. skated == artistically impressive performances, despite the fifth place finish. The contest between Coi and Paterson was primarily one of style vs jumping ability - and who could skate his best when it counted. Unfortunately neither man skated to his potential and it's hard to say who would have won if they had. - At their best, Paterson's high leaps could challenge Canadian Brian Orser at the Canadian Championships next month in Montreal. Only two men make the World Team this year and at least four or five have a good those berths. Coi and Paterson are among them. mara p 4 River competitions were Canadian Ice Dance Champions Tracy Wilson of the Vanceuver Skating Club and Robert McCall of Halifax. They won against VSC’s Anna Gniffith and Loch MacDonald. Wilson and McCall earned standing ovations for their wonderfully expressive, original and_ technically precise skating.
