Breton’s engine worth preserving From page 9 attention on the story of Burrard Drvdock is very appropriate and long overdue, and I regret that from our museunr's current site on English Bay we couldn't do more. That engine would make a difference in a com- munity museum such as ship- yard-located North Vancouver Museum and Archives. In fact, on July 1, when RCMP Nadon Nett Canada Place at the begin- ning of the St. Roch H Voyage of Rediscovery, her first stop was an honorary call at Burrard Drydock to cele- brate that yard's many contri- butions, including the con- struction of the original Sr. Roch. In closing, for all those cit- izens of North and West Vancouver, I do not think that there is an opportunity lost. The Vancouver Maritime Museum, along with the West Vancouver Museum and Archives and the North Vancouver Museum and Archives, already collectively work together to preserve heritage, legacies from the past and human stories. Hopefiully, in the future, all of these museums will grow, be joined by new sites and attrac- tions — like the Cape Breton engine and the Point Atkinson Lighthouse. We envision that the new “Maritime Museum of the Pacific” will become an even larger part of the cultural and social fabric of our diverse community and region. — James P.
