A full roster of activities celebrated heritage on the North Shore this past weekend. The annual event, co-sponsored by the North Shore’s three heritage advisory commissions as well as North and West Vancouver muscums, included several planned activities that explored the rich cultural heritage of the North Shore and its cady people and historic places, from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove. Comte Contributing Writer A 25-year-oid cedar fence that flanks the Upper Levels Highway from Westview to the _ ferry terminal is net doing i its job anymore. he Ministry of Tranteortatinn and Highways still hopes to get another 15 ycars out of the old wood, according to near- by residents. The six-foot-high fence was erected in 1975 by the min- istry to keep people and ani- mals away from the bighway and heip insulate residents from traffic noise, but now some sections have fallen over, some are missing, and much of the wood is rotten. “You can literally walk through the fence at some places. The fence is just gone,” West Vancouver resident Mike Theil said. The Ministry’s Southcoast regional director Keith Bespflug said there are no plans to replace the aging fence, but maintenance would continue. “Basically, as long as the fence is performing, we would have no plans to do anythin ; We don’t have funding de - cated to repair this fence. We would treat it section by section. But, we have no plans to replace the whole fence.” A maintenance contractor is responsible for observing the conditions of the fence.
