What moti- vates my husband and | to oppose the rezoning of this land is: 1) Inadequate public notice of the public hearing concerning the rezoning of this adjacent creek-land. Specifically the rezoning nap. twice — publicized, showed a non-existent street and no indication of the exis- tence of the creek on either the map or in written form. (This was only corrected one day prior to the public hear- ing.) 2) In the North Shore vel- low pages we found a half page ad for “Rainbow Martial Arts,” costing the developer in excess of $5,500 announc- ing an opening this fall along with the address and phone number of this yet-to-be rezoned parkland. 3) ‘After phoning the Department of Fisheries and Oceans we learned that they oppose this site-specific rezoning for environmental reasons, the protection of fish habitat, We then decided that this was an important enough issuc to lend our support. We do not oppose Mr. Lo opening a martial art school on the North Shore; that is his right. We are just opposed to rezoning parkland adjacent to Mosquito Creek thereby set- ting a dangerous precedent for the future. I understand that this is the first time with- in memory of council and mayor that parkland has been offered for sale. We need to reclaim our creeks and restore them, keeping them within public access and responsibil- ity. The theory was that people cmployed by the program } would spend the money they earned, boosting economic activity and bringing back the good old days of low unemployment.
