The North Shore Health Board is secking applications from qualified persons to fill the new

position of Chief Executive Officer for the North Shore Health Region.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the North Shore Health Board is responsible to the
policy setting Board of Directors for managing the delivery of a diverse range of health care
programs and services within the region, ‘The responsibility of the CEO includes the provi-
sion of strategic leadership in the planning, organization. and evaluation of the region's health
services, The CEO ensures that the Board is provided with the necessary operational infor-
mation to make sound policy decisions and that Board members are apprised of all develop-
ments and issues within the region. The CEO facilitates the development, promulgation, and
achievement of the North Shore Health Board’s vision, mission, and values and implements
resolutions of the Board within the context of global objectives. ‘The CEO builds on the
existing strengths of communities and the health system in order.to effect accountable and
responsible stewardship of fiscal, capital, and human resources. The CEO establishes and
monitors the progress towards the operational goals and transitional challenges of bringing
health Jure closer to home in all the North Shore communities.

The successful candidate will have a Masters’ degree in Health Administration or related
discipline supplemented with a minimum of fifteen years of experience at a senior level in the
health sector including planning, evaluation and administration of health service programs,
or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ‘This experience will include budget
development and financial management. The CEO's skills will include excellent leadership
and people management skills and the abilily to communicate, motivate, delegate and oper-
ate effectively i in structured and unstructured situations. The CEO will be a strategic thinker;
a visionary who looks for new approaches and seeks innovative ways to address challenges.
The ability to manage organizations in transition and the ability to anticipate or react quickly
to changing priorities or unforeseen opportunities are both essential,

The North Shore Health Board was designated by the Minister of Health in October 1994, to
plan and coordinate health services on the North Shore. The Board will identify local health -
issues and priorities, and integrate and allocate funds to the region’s health services. The
Board is coterminous, combining the functions of a Regional Health Board and Community
Health Councils. The North Shore Region includes North Vancouver City, North Vancouver
District, West Vancouver District, Bowen Island and the Village of Lions Bay. The Board’s .
mission is, “To enhance the health and well being of everyone on the North Shore.”
