Prior ty given to North Shore and fund- raising events, West Van golfer takes swing at World Junior Championships WEST VANCOUVER’S Greg Trammell is definitely on the upswing. The 17-year-old junior golfer is heading off to compete in the World Junior Golf Champion- ships in San Diego after placing second in the World Junior Quali- fying Rounds held at Mayfair Lakes and the Richmond Golf and Country Club. Trammell, a Collingwood stu- dent entering Grade 12, registered a 151 total at the two-day qualifier, just one stroke behind first-place finisher Sean Coulter of the Quilchena Club. A member of the Capilano Golf Club, Trammell leaves for the Worlds on July 14. Although he’s been twice be- fore, this is the first time Tram- mell has qualified, where, as one of four qualifiers, he will get his way paid by the tournament’s sponsor, the Optimist Club, which includes the North Shore chapter. Trammell, who is playing his last year in the U.S. as a junior, says he hopes to catch the eye of college golf scouts at the World Juniors. He’ll be playing against a field of 250 golfers in the 15 to 17 years age group but prefers not to think of it as competition as such. “It’s really competitive but each player is playing the course, not each other. I have a pretty good chance, I guess, as long as I stay on top of my game.” Trammell also won the Lower | MOTOR CARS: © | Mainland Junior Amateur Cham- pionship posting a 70-73 score at Burnaby Mountain golf course, edging Victor Vianzon by one GRAND OPENING SALE stroke.
