Vancouver Natural History Socie-
ty, said the main danger to the
local marmot colony is coyotes.

“They're looking to snatch a
marmot whenever they get a
chance,’’ he said.

“Children are unlikely to do any
harm because the marmots can
outrun them. They’re pretty tough,
little animals — it takes a good bit
to hurt them.””

Merilees said the marmots are
restricted to the area east of the
Trans-Canada Highway, and south
of Mount Seymour Park.
