Saving money on energy
costs is usually associated
with thermostats and = fur-

naces. But with increased
road travel in the warm
weather. there are = sub-

stantial savings thal can be
made by followitg a few
simple steps in operating our
cars.

some steps which can reduce
energy costs.

1. Observe the speed
limit. It can take 22 per cent
more gas to travel the same
distance at 112 kilometres an
hour than at 80.

2. Keep your tires fully

3. Keep the filters clean.
A dirty carburetor air filter
can cost you extra gallons in
wasted energy.

4. Let the engine warm
gradually. Don't gun it.

5. Don't let the car idle. A
minute of idling uses more
gas than restarting the
motor.

6. Leave jack rabbit starts
to jack rabbits. They can
increase your gas con-
sumption by six per cent.

7. Use your accelerator
gently at all times, allow
your car to slow down on
hills.

Canada mourns Villeneuve

Villeneuve were scheduled
for 8 p.m. today at Ste.
Genevieve de_ Berthier
church in the late driver's
home town of Berthierville.
Quebec, spokesmen for the
family said Monday.

Villeneuve, 30, Canada's
most popular and successful
Formula One driver, died
Saturday after his red
Ferran touched wheels with
a March driven by West
German Jochen Mass during
the practice run.
Villeneuve’s car launched
into the air, throwing the
dnver 18 metres into some
catch-fencing.

In Zolder, Belgium, the
accident prompted calls for
