Police believe the man wanted to be killed by an officer. Police later found a suicide note on him. ‘The man’s weapon turned out to be a pellet pistol. The man entered the police station shortly after 5 p.m. and stood close to the reception counter. The North Vancouver RCMP head- quarters are located in the 100-block of 14th Street. Police say the man was shaking and breathing heavily. He told a municipal employee that he needed to talk to a police officer immedi- ately. When the employee went to tind a police officer, the man stood away from the counter. The employee noticed the man was holding a handgun at his side. The gun appeared to be a .22-calibre pistol. The tirsr police officer the municipal employee encountered was Cpl. Warren Wilson, who was in the main police office area nearby, Wilson saw that the man was shaking and observed the weapon, Wilson drew his gun and ordered the distraught man to drop the Weapon. Police say the man held the gun at his side and did not poine it at anyone, including two other police officers who rushed to. assist Wilson. Wilson veiled at the man several times before the man eventually dropped to his knees and put the gun on the floor, “Luckily, he never raised that pistol,” said North Vancouver RCMP Const, Tom Seaman. Seaman said the man was crying uncontrollably, He was arrested and taken to hospital. Police say the man was severely depressed over a failed relationship. Shortly before the man entered the police office, one of his friends called the North Vancouver RCMP expressing concerns that the man was depressed and about to commit suicide. Officers were dispatched toa home in Lynn Valley in response to the call.
