RAIN AND melling snow in North Shore watersheds — have again caused turbidity, which may make local tap water cloudy. Water from the worst offender, the Captlano watershed, has been shut olf since Wednesday and the Greater Vancouver Water District's (GVWD) customers in North and West Vancouver are now receiving water from the Seymour watershed, said GVWD manager John Morse. Morse said the Seymour water- shed has had minimal impact front recent heavy rainfalls. The fine soil in the Capilano watershed stays suspended in water and causes the turbidity, he said. in general, the Capilano water- shed has the poorest turbidity record, followed by ths Seymour and then the Coquithim watersheds, he added. “The different geology of the watersheds play a large part in it,” Morse suid. The GVWD took the Capilano water supply off-line because the water district expects the turbidity to last for at least a few days, said Morse. The switch to the Seymour water supply takes about six hours so the decision is not made at the first sign of turbidity. Although the Greater Vancouver Regional District assured residents the water is safe to drink, North Vancouver District Mayor Murray Dykeman said cloudy water is a concern because higher levels of chlorination must be used. - (These writs were filed with the court registry in Vancouver between Dec. ©} ‘and Dec. 19, 1994, Information is taken froni the state- ments of claim.) * Plaintiff: Trevor Joseph Wall and Jennifer Leigh Hall,:c/o 301-145 West 15th St., North-Vancouver.
