According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman an RCMP mem- ber was conducting a foot patro! of the Lynnwood Hotel parking tot on Noy. 13 at approximately 1:30 a.m. The officer observed a white Chrysler Newport car parked on the east side of the hotel parking lot. ' The vehicle’s engine was run- ning. A further check of the interior of the car indicated that the car's ignition had been tampered with. There were no people in the car at the time. . The officer checked the licence plate and found that the vehicle had been stolen from the 300-block of East 2nd Street in North Vancouver ‘sometime between the hours of 11 pam. on Nov. 11 and 8 a.m. on Nov. Police set up surveillance of the immediate area where the car had been found, Undercover officers — were brought in to wait for the culprit to return to the vehicle. At approximately 2:20 a.m., the officers watched a man and a woman enter the stolen vehicle, The car Jeft the parking lot and was subsequently stopped by uni- formed police officers and police cars waiting at Barrow Street and Mountain Highway. There was a minor collision between the stolen vehicle and an unmarked police car. The man and woman were arrested at the scene for possession of stolen property. It was suspected that the driver was also impaired at the time and he has subsequently been charged with impaired driving and with refusing to provide a breath sam- ple. Charged with possession of stolen property over $1,000, impaired driving and refusing to provide as breath sample is 34- year-old John William Robert Coyle, Charged with possession of stolen property over $1,000 is 28- year-old Elaine Harrison.
