CHAMPAGNE CORKS
were popping at a gala cere-
mony at the Orpheum last
week as the B.C.
Entertaiament Hall of
Fame’s StarWalk was
unveiled.

The Who's Who of focal show
business showed up for the launch
of 42 stars imbedded in the side-
walk in front of, and across the
street from, the heritage theutre.

Norman Young and Hugh
Pickett did the chore of organizing
this first ever StarWalk and il
hasn't been easy.

the first people to bring cock-and-
roll to these parts, were relating
when they brought in Bill Haley to
the Kerrisdale Arena and followed
him with Little Richard and Fats
Domino. Louise Glennie, actress
and wife of Barkervilie founder
Fran Dowie, had just come out of
hospital after a hip replacement
operation and was using crutches.
But she wouldn't have missed see-
ing her husband get his star for the
world.

Dallas Richards, daughter of
Dal and Lorraine McAllister, was
there to place a rose on her moth-
er’s star. Hugh placed another rose
on the late Holly Maxwell's

friend. Emily Griffiths.

Ht was so goud to see people
like Aida Broadbent and her
daughter Vicki Armstrong.
They'd flown in from [05°F Los
Angeles for Aida's star turn. Aida
is the lady with more bounce to the
ounce, the person who choreo-
graphed all of Jimmy Durante’s
TY shows, and helped put Theatre
Under the Stars on the werld map.
She also found time to make a star
out of singer Robert Goulet by
putting him in tight pants!

Chuck Davis, the fellow: who
won't be writing his birthday col-
umn in the Province as of next
Sunday, was on hand to chronicle
the event.

Judith Forst looked very ele-
gant in a white silk pant suit while
the effervescent Juliette was in
colorful sitk. Irving Guttmaa
played Mr. Sombre.

Marty Zlotnik, one of the
major sponsors, was there, us were
Mary and Art Jones, Sev Morin,
Dixieland’s Lance Harrison, the
delightful musical comedy star
Ruth Nichol whose husband Jet¥
Hyslop had his star implanted.

North Van singer-dancer
Roseanne Hopkins and musicians
Stu Burnett and Jack Fulton,
Tyrol’s Fran and Emersoa Short,
leading restaurateur Erwin
Docbeli, and a surprise — former
North Van actress Pat Gage lew
in from Toronto to represent hee
late, ex-husband, pianist Chris
Gage.

Pat teils me that she's going to
star in Canada’s first major soap
opera, titled Family Passion, come
September. She plays Camilla, tae
family matriarch and is joined on
the set by Dynasty's Gordon
Thompson and Ken Shreiner
from General Hospital.

Some of the stories and sean-
dals that were re-hashed at this
walk of stars affair would fill a
best-seller...

at the site of his new theatre at 775
Homer St.

‘The Hon. Glen Clark assisted
with the shovelling chores since
his government has lent $5.2 mil-
lion to the Live Entertainment
Corp. to get the new $24.5 million
theatre built.

It will boast a seating capacity
of 1,800, with the most up-to-date
technology and architecture
designed by the internationally
renowned architect Moishe
Safdie. Safdie has also created the
new city library right across the
street.

They haven’t yet decided on the
name for the new theatre or the
musical that will open its doors but
bets are on Showboat...
