PEAT MOSS VS. MUSHROOM MANURE

These are both excellent products for soil conditioning, but all too often
used improperly, resulting in damage to expensive plant material. For a simple
rule-of-thumb, use peat moss (slightly acidic) in area containing broad-leaved
evergreens such as cameilias, azaleas, rhodos, heather, etc. Mushroom
manure (from horses) is alkaline, and is great for your vegetable garden, any
deciduous shrubs and trees, but can damage rhodos and similar shrubs. Both
products can be used quite liberally — we recommend using a 21 litre bag on

approximately 50 square feet.
